All about Linux: Abicollab.net - A free web based collaboration service

This looks interesting, but I don't see the option to save abi documents to the abicollab site from within abiword itself. You have to create a document first (in abiword), and then you use a browser to upload it. If this is a product demonstration, it is like selling shoes with no shoestrings.

Yes, the Abiword on my machine also does not have this feature. I think they will be eventually bringing this feature to Abiword via a plug-in or something.

That's nice, but they caught my attention with this news release. I went to abicollab.net and registered an account, but it just sits there unused now. I can do all abicollab is now offering with google documents and almost any word processor.

This was something of a wasted publicity opportunity as I don't know if I'll notice when they make it functional from within abiword. Abi should have waited till they had all their ducks in a row.

Ravi, could come knock on my door when they get it all together ;-)

    Greg,
The latest version of Abiword has the collaboration option in its menu. And I believe you can seamlessly integrate Abicollab with Abiword and create, edit, store and retrieve documents from your Abicollab account.

It might take some time for the latest version of Abiword to be available in Linux repositories though.

Thanks, Ravi. It is not on my menus yet, but I will check again over the next few weeks :-)

Actually my version of abiword (2.6.8) has the <Collaborate> <Accounts> menu item. However, the only type of account it can link to is jabber, and there is NO HELP anywhere online about how to enter abicollab.net into this. I do see that version 2.8 includes this (http://msevior.livejournal.com/27537.html), but the ubuntu notes are still six months behind (http://abisource.com/wiki/Install_on_Ubuntu), so there is no clue as to when 2.8 will be integrated into the repositories.
